David Murray was an artist and a founder member of Glasgow Art Club.
Life:
David Murray was elected as an artist member of Glasgow Art Club in 1867, Vice President in 1873, President in 1875 and Honorary Member in 1913. Thus he was among those Glasgow painters and architects who in 1891 supported the appeal to the Corporation of Glasgow to buy JW's Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137) (#12326). He was elected ARSA in 1881, ARA in 1891, and also exhibited with the RSW.
