Identity:

William Morrill was a picture liner. He was born in Soho, but later moved to Kensington where his son William Morrill, who became a picture restorer, was born around 1879.

Life:

Morrill, a picture liner whose business was situated at 3 Duck Lane, Wardour Street, Soho, had dealings with JW in 1879. He was contracted to cut 7 inches off the top of an unidentified full length painting of a boy. This strip was to be added to the bottom and the whole work lined. It is possible that the work referred to was Portrait of a Boy (YMSM 177) which A. S. Cole noted in his diary as seeing in January 1877 (#08945).
