Chevalier Eduardo de Martino was a marine painter.
Life:
Martino was the official painter to the Emperor of Brasil Dom Pedro and painted scenes from the 1868-9 war with Paraguay. From 1875 he was resident in Britain, firstly living in Cowes, and became Marine Painter in Ordinary to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. In London he lived at 1 St John's Wood Studios, Queen's Terrace. He exhibited at the Fine Art Society and at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. In 1889 he was among those included in the preliminary preparations for a meal to be held at the Criterion in Piccadilly on 1 May in celebration of JW's honorary membership of the Royal Academy in Munich (#04024).
