Identity:
Suzanne Manet, née Leenhoff, was a piano teacher and the wife of the painter Edouard Manet. They married in 1863, after the death of Manet's father, having lived in a somewhat irregular relationship for many years (their son Leon was born in 1852).
Life:
Manet made many studies of her including Madame Manet at Bellevue (1880; Metropolitan Museum of Art New York).
