W. Macdonald was a Manchester house painter.
Life:
MacDonald, a grainer, marbler and sign writer, shared with JW a grievance against Ruskin. He felt that the critic was unfairly critical of his profession. He wrote to JW around 1878 wanting his help in giving Ruskin 'a proper dressing' (#03712).
