Identity:

Lily Delissa Joseph, née Solomon, was a portrait, landscape and interior painter. She was the sister of the portrait and figure painter Solomon Joseph Solomon. She married the architect Delissa Joseph.

Life:

Joseph studied at South Kensington School of Art. Her Roofs, High Holborn was purchased by the Chantrey Bequest 1937. She was an active exhibitor from 1889 until 1938, showing in London at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Oils, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Ridley Art Club, New English Art Club, Society of Women Artists and Society of British Artists, a society which elected JW its President in 1886. She also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and Walker Gallery in Liverpool.

Joseph was amongst those proposed invitees to a dinner organised by W. C. Symons to congratulate JW on becoming an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Munich, a dinner which was to be held at the Criterion in Piccadilly on 1 May 1889 (#00631).
