Identity:

Dr Francis Sibson, FRS, FRCP, was a consulting physician to St Mary's Hospital, London.

Life:

He was a government nominee to the Metropolitan Asylums Board 1814-1876, and a member of the Royal Geographic Society. He was also a writer on cardiac and pulmonary diseases.

He was a member of the Burlington Fine Arts Club. He would have known JW through the latter, at the time when JW was forced to resign from the club in 1867.

Sibson was a collector of Wedgwood, particularly of Flaxman designs. The sale of his collection of Old Wedgwood took place at Christie's, London, 7 March 1877 and on the following days.
