James Stevens Hill was a a landscape and flower painter.

Life:

Hill exhibited between 1880 and 1920 at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Dudley Gallery, Baillie Gallery, New Gallery, the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery.

In 1885 he was elected a member of the Society of British Artists, a society which elected JW its President in 1886. He also became a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1895 and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1898. He also exhibited with the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers, of which JW became President in 1898.
