Alice Marion Rowlands married the proprietor of The Lancet, Ernest Abraham Hart.

Life:

She was involved in the campaign to improve the lot of the poor in Ireland, and wrote Cottage industries: and what they can do for Ireland, London, 1885. She was patroness of the 'Donegal' village, whch was part of the Irish section of the World's Columbian exhibition of 1893.

Her own drawings were mentioned to JW in 1895 by M. B. Huish of the Fine Art Society in London, who refused to hold an exhibition of her work (#01330). However, she exhibited between 1896 and 1898 at the Dudley Gallery and Dowdeswell's.

She and her husband were also interested in the culture of Japan and Burma, and she later wrote Picturesque Burma Past and Present, London, 1897, which was profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings.
