Identity:
William Henry Goodyear was an archaeologist. He was the son of Charles Goodyear, the inventor of rubber processing.
Life:
Goodyear was a specialist in medieval and Greek archaeology. He became head of Fine Art at Brooklyn Museum in New York in 1890. In 1893 he was in correspondence with JW and Alexander Reid, because he wanted to publish a book on Renaissance and Modern Art, in which he hoped to include a reproduction of La Princesse du pays de la porcelaine (YMSM 50) [#01764]. It was eventually published in 1900. He had previously published a book on Greek ornament, The Grammar of the Lotus (1891), as well as History of Art, Roman and Medieval Art and Lectures on Art.
