Identity:
George Gatey was a solicitor.
Life:
George Gatey was the partner of the lawyer John Fisher in the firm of Fisher and Gatey of Windermere in Cumbria. According to Kelly's 1873 Directory of Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland & Westmorland, George Gatey lived at Grove House, Bowness. It describes him as a solicitor and commissioner in all common courts of Fisher and Gatey. In August 1877 Rose contacted Gatey's partner Fisher with a writ on Ruskin for the Whistler v. Ruskin trial. However, Gatey informed him that Fisher had retired, and took the duties on himself [#08905, #11941]. In 1881 he is described in the census as widowed and living at Market Place, Ambleside. His office seems to have been in Church Street, Ambleside. The 1901 census describes him as born in Keswick, living in Ambleside.
