Archibald Forbes, LL.D was an author, lecturer and journalist.

Life:

Forbes made his name as Daily News war correspondent in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. As a journalist his reports from the battlefield captured public imagination and he became a well-known public figure. He was a veteran of various conflicts including the Russo-Turkish War, 1877, the Afghanistan Campaign 1878-79 and the Zululand Campaign, 1879.

Forbes also lectured widely about his experiences, clashing with Oscar Wilde whilst on a lecture tour of the USA in 1882.
