John Fletcher was a dramatist, the son of Richard Fletcher, later Bishop of London.

Life:

Fletcher is best remembered for his pastoral play The Faithful Shepherdess published in about 1609 (which was adapted by E. W. Godwin for performance at Coombe Park by Lady Archibald Campbell and the Pastoral Players). Fletcher also enjoyed successful literary partnerships with Francis Beaumont (1584-1616), notably with The Scornful Lady (1616), and with Philip Massinger (1583-1640) in such works as The Little French Lawyer (1620).
