Alfred Ewen Fletcher was a journalist and editor.
Life:
Born in Lincolnshire, Fletcher's journalistic career took off when he was appointed a leader writer of the Daily Chronicle in 1878. This led to his taking over as editor in 1890.
He edited a popular handbook on education, Sonnenschein's cyclopaedia of education. A handbook of reference (1889 amd 1906).
He was interested in the social and artistic theories of John Ruskin, becoming the first president of the Birmingham Ruskin Society in the 1890s. He is referred to in JW's correspondence about 1895.
