Dr Thomas Evans was a dentist in Paris, and publisher of the English language newspaper there, the American Register. He was a friend of JW and Stéphane Mallarmé in the 1890s.

Life:

A dentist listed as Thomas William Evans (1830-1897) is probably the same as Thomas Wiltberger Evans MD, whose 500 page plus memoirs were published in 1905.

Evans also wrote La commission sanitaire des Etats-Unis, son origines, son organisation et ses resultats, avec un notice sur les hopitaux militaires des Etats -Unis..., Paris, 1865; Lettres d'un oncle a son neveu sur le gouvernement des Etats-Unis, Paris, 1866; Sanitary institutions during the Austro-Prussian- Italian conflict..., Paris, 1868; History of the American ambulance established during the siege of Paris 1870-71, London, 1873; Introduction to the memoirs of Heinrich Heine and some newly-discovered fragments of his writings, London 1884.
