Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederate States of America.
Life:
A student at West Point Millitary School Jefferson Davis served the United States as Senator for Mississippi and Secretary for War. As the United States' Secretary for War Davis received correspondence from JW, who sought his help in allowing him to remain at West Point after being dismissed. In 1861 Davis was elected President of the Confederate States of America a post he held to the dissolution of the Confederacy in 1865. Imprisoned without trial for two years after the Civil War, on his release, Davis was barred from Federal office for the rest of his life.
