William Alfred Cranston was a draughtsman and wood engraver. His wife Mary Ann was a confectioner.
In 1864 Cranston's premises were to be found at 156 Strand [#12745]. He shared this address with the wood engravers Samuel Vincent Slader and Edward Sturt, and the solicitor Robert Hatfield Jewesson. It is possible that Cranston was part of the Bewick school of wood engravers. In 1872 his address was 174 Fleet Street, E.C. In 1881 he was registered as living at 94 Holloway Road with his 40 year old wife.
