Baron Frans Courtens was a Belgian landscape painter.

Life:

Courtens studied at the Académie of Fine Arts in Dendermonde, later settling in Brussels. There he became associated with artists such as Henry Stacquet (1838-1906) and Victor Uytterschaut (1847-1917) who admired the Barbizon school of painters. A leading figure in Belgian landscape painting, he is remembered for his treatment of light, colour and atmosphere in rustic and modern life subjects.
