Identity:

George E. Corner was an art teacher and a painter of landscape and figure subjects. In 1881 he was unmarried and lodging at 7 Upwood Terrace, Lee, Kent.

Life:

Corner specialised particularly in figure and coastal paintings, and was an active exhibitor from 1886-91. He was a resident at Blackheath Arts Club in 1890, and was a member of and exhibitor at the Club.

Corner showed ten of his works at the exhibitions of the Royal Society of British Artists, which had elected Whistler its President in June 1886. He was amongst those proposed invitees to a dinner organised by W. C. Symons to congratulate Whistler on being made an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Munich, a dinner which was to be held at the Criterion in Piccadilly on 1 May 1889 (#02194).
