R. De Cordova was an actor, writer and librettist.
Life:
He played Corin in As You Like it and Thenon in The Faithful Shepherdesse with the 'Pastoral Players' under the direction of E. W. Godwin at Coombe. JW probably met him at that time, and certainly knew him by 1887.
Later, he was co-author with Alicia Ramsay of the play As a man sows, performed at the Grand Theatre, Islington in 1898. He performed choral numbers with Mrs Brown Potter for Mendelssohn's Antigone at the Colston Hall at the Bristol Music Festival in 1902. He was the librettist for The Golden Princess and the Elephant Hunters, with music by Clarence Corri, performed at the London Hippodrome in 1903.
