Identity:

Sir Egerton Bushe Coghill was a landscape and figure painter. He was the son of the Irish painter Sir John Joscelyn Coghill.

Life:

Coghill studied about 1880 in Dusseldorf and from 1881 to 1884 in the Academie Julien with Bouguereau. He painted in Barbizon, Castletownsend and West Cork, producing works notable for their atmospheric effects. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions at the Walker Art Gallery. In 1887 he joined the membership of the New English Art Club.

In 1889 Coghill was among those included in the preliminary preparations for a meal to be held at the Criterion on 1 May in celebration of JW's honorary membership of the Royal Academy in Munich (#00631). At this date he was living at 8 Penywern Road, Earl's Court.
