Identity:
Maria [or Mary] Humphrey, the daughter of John Humphery, married Howard Cockerell, a merchant, in March 1875 at St James, Westminster. They had a daughter Elphida May (b. ca 1876).
Life:
The London address of Mr and Mrs Howard Cockerell in 1881 and 1882 was 11 Ovington Square, but by 1884 they appear to have moved to 1 Cromwell Gardens. They were among those invited to JW's studio and home in London in the late 1870s and 1880s [#11218, #11211]. In 1887 they were invited by JW to attend the private view of the 1887-8 winter exhbition of the Royal Society of British Artists, a society of which JW was President from 1886 to 1888 [#13403].
