Identity:
Sir Edward Clarke, K.C., P.C., was a barrister and MP. He married firstly Annie Mitchell in 1866 (d. 1881) and secondly, Kathleen Bryant in 1882.
Life:
The son of a London jeweller, Clarke was called to the bar in 1864 and went on to practise in the Common Law Courts and Surrey Sessions. He was elected MP for Southwark in 1880. He is remembered for his Treatise on the Law of Extradition, first published in 1866. He was Solicitor-General from 1886-92. He was knighted in 1886.
