The date 'September 20th 1890' has been crossed out, but the envelope, may have been used originally to store a letter from A. Moore in October 1883 (see below).

Written in several different hands. The deleted text on this envelope appears to have been written by Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more], when organising JW's business affairs in 1890.

3.  Augustus Moore
Augustus Martin Moore (d. 1918), journalist and acting manager [more]. The letter that this envelope contained was probably A. Moore to JW, #04175.

4.  Hawk
The Hawk was a journal edited by Augustus Moore.

5.  quarrel with Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wilde (1854-1900), writer, critic and playwright [more]. The quarrel is referred to by Moore in #04175.
