Walter -

I want you to bring away from your room the little picture I gave you and lend it me for Exhibition immediately -

Mind it comes with you to town tomorrow morning - You can send it up to the Galleries at about one o'clock - properly wrapped in brown paper - and addressed to the President -

Of course you know which picture I mean - the little panel of the girl in brown^[3] [p. 2] against the black background -

I hope it is in the same lovely condition of enamel^[4]! -

Arrangement in Black: Girl Reading (YMSM 223)or Arrangement in Black: Reading (YMSM 224) was exhibited at 64th Annual Exhibition, Royal Society of British Artists, London, 1887. JW was then President of the RBA, and apparently was so involved in the decor and hanging of the Suffolk Street galleries that he had not organised his own exhibits (see also a letter to Mme Venturi, 14 March 1887, #06001).

4.  enamel
Thinly painted on wood panels, and varnished, the oil colours glowed like enamel.

5.  S. W. / 2D
The second postmark appears to have been the cost incurred by JW for having posted this letter without a stamp.
