Godfrey Turner was a journalist and art critic who was in contact with JW in the early 1880s.
During the first part of his career, Turner wrote for a number of newspapers including the Spectator, the Morning Chronicle and the Leader. He was also art critic of the newspaper John Bull, becoming its editor in 1855. Later, from 1860 until his death, he wrote for the Daily Telegraph, chiefly as a special correspondent. In addition, he published works on art and travel including Homely Scenes from Great Painters (1871) that was noted for its fine colour plates.
