Sarah Foster Palmer was the wife of Amos Palmer, Sr (1788-1854), another brother of George Erwin Palmer. Of their two children, their daughter Amelia Hertell Palmer (1819-1843) survived childhood, and married Edward Cany in 1838, but she died in 1843. Courtlandt's daughter was very likely named after her.
