Harry John Miller was elected an artist member of Glasgow Art Club on 29 November 1873. He was among those Glasgow painters and architects who in 1891 supported the appeal urging the Corporation of Glasgow to buy Whistler's Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137) (#12326).
