He lived at 14 Titchfied Terrace, North Gate, Regents Park, and was the father of the artist Helen Hatton.

Life:

Joseph Hatton was editor of The Gentleman's Magazine and People. It was probably in his capacity as journalist and editor that he was acquainted with Whistler in the late 1880s. A popular novelist, he wrote something over a hundred books including Club-land, London and Provincial, London, 1890, and Story of Walter Raleigh and a day in a tobacco factory, Copes Tobacco Plant, Liverpool, 1893 (originally published 1889).
