Identity:

Dudley Hardy was an English painter and illustrator. His father T. B. Hardy was also a painter.

Life:

Hardy exhibited regularly at the R.A. from 1844 until 1922. He produced anything from oriental to Breton genre scenes. However, he made his reputation through his graphic art, producing illustrations for popular magazines and posters. He was responsible for the D'Oyly Carte opera posters for the Savoy Theatre. He was in correspondence with Whistler around 1887.
