Life:

JW met Edenborough on his trip to Valparaiso in 1866 when JW was involved with H. H. Doty in a plan to sell arms to Chile during a dispute with Spain (#04335). In 1867, when Francis Seymour Haden brought charges against JW to the Burlington Fine Arts Club Committee, JW asked for Edenborough's support with reference to the specific charges made regarding H. H. Doty, with whose wife Astride, he was supposed to have had an affair (#01039). In December 1867, following JW's expulsion from the club, Edenborough wrote to JW expressing his 'indignation and surprise that a charge treated with derision by all your friends and acquaintances in Valparaiso, where the allegations were first brought forward, should here in London be accepted as discreditable to you by a body of gentlemen without any inquiry whatever as to the calibre of the person making them' (#01040).
