Alfred Douglas was the third son of John Sholto Douglas, the 9th Marquess of Queensbury. In 1902 he married Olive Eleanor Custance, an heiress and poet. They had one son, Raymond. Douglas.


He was known as 'Bosie' the intimate friend of Oscar Wilde. He was a poet; JW mentioned reading a review of Douglas's book of pems, The City of the Soul (1899), which was one of Douglas's most admired volumes.

He is referred to in JW's correspondence in 1899 (JW to W. Heinemann, #08522).
