Henry Edward Detmold was an artist.

Life:

Detmold specialised in landscape, figure and marine painting. He was active in the exhibiting world between 1880 and 1902, showing at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Grosvenor Gallery, Agnew and Sons Gallery and Dowdeswell Galleries in London, as well as at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery.

Detmold also exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists, which elected JW its President in 1886. He became a member of the New English Art Club in 1886, a group with which JW exhibited at its first exhibition in 1888, showing an early oil, A White Note (YMSM 44), and a recent etching of Brussels. Like JW, Detmold lived on and off in Paris betwen 1881 and 1900. His name is included in a list composed by JW and dating from 1886/1888, which may be a list of people invited to a private view (#13351).
