Robert Crawford, LL.D., D.L., was a Glasgow Councillor.
Life:
Robert Crawford, of Burns, Crawford and Co., was a Glasgow councillor from 1883-1896. He was the chairman of the committee on Art Galleries and Museums in 1891 when a group of Glasgow painters and architects appended their names to a list requesting that the Corporation of Glasgow buy JW's Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137) (#12326). Crawford supported the appeal and met JW at that time.
Crawford was admitted as a lay member of Glasgow Art Club on 19 February 1891, and elected as an honorary member on 25 April 1894.
