Charles Carlton, JP, was a decorator.
Carlton was an original lay member of Glasgow Art Club from 1886, and was elected Vice-President in 1916 and 1917. He was among those Glasgow painters who in 1891 appended their names to a list requesting that the Corporation of Glasgow buy JW's Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137) [#12326].
He lived at 141 and then 189 St Vincent Street, then at 3 Athol Gardens, Kelvinside, Glasgow, and retired to Chessil Avenue, Boscombe, Wiltshire.
