Whistler 2003 Centenary

In 2003 the centenary of the artist James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903) was celebrated by the University of Glasgow with a festival of exhibitions, public events, concerts and lectures, as well as with contributions to other events in the United States and elsewhere in Europe. The on-line edition of Whistler's orrespondence was launched in June 2003 and in September the University hosted a highly successful international conference.

To mark the centenary a series of seminars on letters and letter-writing in the nineteenth century took place during 2003/4.

During 2003 Ian Meacock created an online journal, highlighting significant dates in the calendar year connected with Whistler's life and describing events that took place during the centenary year.
