The President, who had announced to the Society, that he had it in his power to show to the members the Memorial to H. M. the Queen - opened the matter, by reading again the correspondence between the Home Department and himself, evolved from the presentation of the Address, - culminating in the commands of the Queen that, from now and hence forth, the association bear the style & title of The Royal Society of British Artists.
The final letter from the President, in reply, begging the Secretary of State to lay before the Throne, the thanks of the Royal Society of British Artists, and undertaking on their behalf "that no efforts will ever be spared by them and by their successors to serve and advance those best interests of British Art, which throughout Her Majesty's long and glorious reign have steadily prospered and made progress
I under Her enlightened patronage and protection" concluded the official Correspondence.
This was followed by
athe reading of a copy of the Address Memorial to Her Majesty, - after which the President had the honour to lay before the Society the Memorial itself -; which had been entrusted to him for the time being Work to H. M. * - and with its inspection terminated the proceedings of the evening.

2. Memorial to H. M. the Queen
During her Jubilee Year, JW sent a Memorial to the Queen requesting that the Society of British Artists be called 'Imperial'. This was then amended to read 'Royal'. The SBA received a Royal Charter, thus becoming the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA). The Memorial was shown to the RBA on 5 September 1887 (#01841, #01842).
