une secrète opération - et plus heureuse - de cette même nature justement calomniée par vous! me faisait relire une traduction[3] du précieux "Ten" pendant que le texte s'en déposait à ma poete, grâce à votre soin . .
[p. 2] Voulez-vous donc venir vous-même ici, demain Vendredi, vers trois heures, rencontrer votre ami M. Stott[4], en présence de plusieurs Japonaiseries?
Ces trois spectateurs initiés que nous serons, des soyeux et joyeux prestiges, n'auront en eux rien de quoi troubler ni déranger les mirages des Foukousas, et des Kakemonos[5] . . [p. 3] Mais, si le temps vous flagelle, que vous fuyiez - ou quoi que ce soit d'empêcheur de danser en rond autour des chimères . . alors, fixez-moi quelque rencontre autre, chez moi, chez vous, ailleurs; car je me forge une félicité de vous revoir . .
La vicomtesse[6] souffrante ne fera point à sa fièvre un minime grief [p. 4] de supprimer la récidive de l'aimable journée d'antan. Mais si vous restiez un peu, nous pourrions sans doute, une fois, aller distraire sa convalescence . .
Enfin, à demain j'espère, et mille choses choisies.

Dear Mr Whistler
a secret operation - and happier - of this same nature justly calumniated by you! made me read again a translation of the precious "Ten" while the text was deposited with my poet, thanks to your care . .
[ p. 2 ] Will you then yourself come here, tomorrow, Friday, around three o'clock, to meet your friend Mr Stott, in the presence of several Japonaiseries?
These three initiated spectators that we shall be, of silky and joyous marvels, will not have in them anything to disturb nor to displace the mirages of Foukousas, and Kakemonos. . [p. 3] But, if time whips you, so that you flee - or anything prevents dancing around the dreams. . then, set for me some other meeting, at my home, or your home, or elsewhere; because I am looking forward to the happiness of seeing you again. .
The suffering viscountess will not in the least hold it against her fever [p. 4] for preventing the repetition of the pleasant day of yore. But if you remain a little longer, we could undoubtedly, at once, go and distract her convalescence . .
So, tomorrow I hope, and a thousand choice things.
