Identity:
Edward Henry Gordon Craig was the son of the architect Edward William Godwin and the actress Ellen Terry. When Terry left E. W. Godwin, he married Beatrix, who after his death married Whistler.
Life:
He was a member of the Lyceum Theatre, London, where he was trained as an actor and began his career in stage production and design. He was appointed Royal Designer for Industry of the Royal College of Art in 1938, made a Compainion of Honour in 1958 and was appointed president of the Mermaid Theatre, London in 1964.
