Georges-Philippe Clésinger was a sculptor. His son was the better known painter and sculptor Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger (1814-1883).
He studied with the neo-classicist sculptor François-Josephe Bosio (1768-1845). He is remembered both as a sculptor of religious subjects (notably his six groups of figures for the Church of Sainte-Madeleine, Besançon, Franche-Comté) and as a teacher - Clésinger taught at the Ecole de dessin et de sculpture de Besançon.
