Colonel Albany Hawke Charlesworth, JP, of Chapelthorpe Hall, was a wealthy Major of Volunteers. In 1881 he was unmarried and living with his mother, sister and a large household of about 20 servants.
He was Lord of the manor of Grinton in North Riding. He was elected MP for Wakefield in July 1892. It is possible that JW knew him as a potential patron, about 1892.
