Kate Josephine Bateman, later Mrs Crowe, a popular actress.
She first appeared on stage as 'an infant phenomenon' in 1852. Her real debut was in 1863 at the Adelphi Theatre where her emotional performance as the Jewess in Leah became the talk of the town. She appeared as Julia on 30/31 January 1865 in The Hunchback by Sheridan Knowles, but the play was suspended until 7 March because she fell ill.
