James Carfrae Alston was a Glasgow tobacco merchant.

Life:

Officers of the 1st Lanarkshire Volunteers were among the prime movers in the Council which established The Boys' Brigade in 1885. J. Carfrae Alston, who was also a Major in the 1st Lanarkshire Volunteers, was elected first President of the Council.

He was also a collector, and is referred to in JW's correspondence about 1893.
