Identity:
George William Godfrey, Clerk in Department of the Secretary to the Admiralty, was a dramatist. His wife who died in 1888 wrote three novels.
Life:
He wrote comedies, many of which were performed at the Court Theatre, the best-known being The Parvenu 1882. Other plays included Queen Mab at the Haymarket Theatre in 1874; The Opal Ring at the Court in 1885; He that hesitates at the St George's Hall in 1888; and The Misogynist at the St James' in 1895.
He was invited to the Private View of the Royal Society of British Artists when JW was President in 1887.
